The Wind Finally Decided to Join Annapolis NOOD
The weather was still shaky on the second day of the NOOD regatta in Annapolis. However, wind held out enough for racing to begin. There were three races on day two — even if it did seem like a storm was on the way for much of the day. On the division 4 course, there was a general recall during the second race for J-109s. Luckily, the wind continued to build throughout the day and racing felt better and better as the day went on.
My crew mates set a high standard for the lunch sandwiches on Friday and the competition was on. Lunch on Saturday continued to raise the bar. Sandwiches were made with freshly roasted turkey, spinach, sharp cheddar cheese, and cranberry mayo on ciabiatta rolls. Yum : )
Racing started right away on Sunday and that was a good thing. Two races were completed; but the wind dropped as the day went on. Wind dropped off so much that the last race was shortened to four legs (instead of five) for J-109s. From the water, it looked like the wind was coming back after the race completed.
Sunday lunch continued to impress with chicken souvlaki, tzatziki sauce, cucumber and tomato in pita bread. Voting at the end of the regatta resulted in a tie between Saturday and Sunday’s sandwiches.
All in all, even a bad day on the race course is better than a good day a lot of other places. I’m happy that it feels like the Annapolis racing season is fully underway. Next, the NOOD regatta moves to Seattle. Good luck racers!
